Does anyone know if as nurses we can say "no" to working more than 7 days in a row. Some of our shift patterns are extremely long one collegue has recently worked 7 days on 2 off and 7 on. Some are working 8-10days with 2 days off.

Hi Christina,

How many hours are you being asked to work and on what kind of area of nursing?

The number of days you work in a row is not covered by law but the number of hours you work are. So the number of hours you can work without taking a break. The number of hours within a 24 hour period etc.

There are certain professions which are excluded from the rules like the army, police and emergency services. Here is a link for government provided information about Working Time Limits
